DELTA DELTA DELTA (DELTA IOTA CHAPTER)

In 1910 Alpha Upsilon was organized as a local sorority with four members. In 1913 the sorority, now known as Delta Iota, was incorporated into the national sorority Delta Delta Delta; it had nineteen members. By 1932, when the Tri Delta house on Maple Street was completed, there were forty members. Prominent chapter alumnae have included Louise McPhetridge Thaden, aviatrix and winner of the Bendix Transcontinental Air Race 1936; Rosa Zagnoni Marinoni, poet laureate of Arkansas 1954; and Donna Axum, Miss America 1963. 

THE COLLECTION

Papers concerning Delta Iota Chapter of Delta Delta Delta Sorority at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas were donated by Elizabeth Melton Phillips of Little Rock in 1985. Mrs. Phillips was Chapter Advisor of the Delta Iota Chapter.

The papers consist primarily of minutes of the regular meetings of the Delta Iota Chapter, 1914-1959. Also included are Call Meeting, House Meeting and Officer Council Minutes as well as reports and rolls. In addition, the papers contain By-laws, a Petition to the Delta Delta Delta Fraternity for incorporation and correspondence.
