AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN, FAYETTEVILLE BRANCH

The Arkansas Division of the AAUW, parent of the Fayetteville Branch, was established in 1923 in Little Rock (Pulaski County), Arkansas, at a meeting attended by representatives from Little Rock, Fayetteville, and Hot Springs (Garland County), Arkansas. The Arkansas Division of the AAUW has continued to be active in important political and social issues up to the present day.

THE COLLECTION

Mary Frances Gladney of Fayetteville (Washington County), Arkansas, President of the Fayetteville Branch of the American Association of University Women, donated the papers on April 5, 1988.

Materials constituting the present collection focus on the Fayetteville Branch of the AAUW and include correspondence, accounts of meetings, financial records, and scrapbooks of clippings. Yearbooks from the Fayetteville Branch and from such other Arkansas cities as Conway (Faulkner County), De Queen (Sevier County), Magnolia (Columbia County), Mena (Polk County), and Pine Bluff (Jefferson County) are present as well.

    Series 1. AAUW - National Organization, 1961-1969. Box 1.

    Materials in this series apply to all state divisions and branch organizations. They include a Charter and Bylaws of the AAUW (1971), a fact sheet concerning the international organization, of which the AAUW forms a division, and a set of guidelines drawn up for the separate local branches of the national AAUW. The series focuses on the history of the AAUW in Arkansas. Additional materials concerning bylaws of the state organization, its budget, political activities, board meetings, and conventions enrich the present collection.

    The Arkansas Division of the AAUW is segmented into branches on the local level. Although the present collection contains very little material from branches other than that of Fayetteville, yearbooks from several other branches constitute part of the AAUW/Fayetteville Papers. The series contains correspondence, minutes of AAUW meetings, treasurers' reports, and budgets. Unless otherwise noted, all materials are from the Fayetteville branch.

    This series contains minutes from the Arkansas Division and the Southwest Central Regional section of the American Association of University Women. Folder 1 contains a Secretary-Treasurer s Book of the Arkansas Division which contains some financial minutes of meetings of the Arkansas Division and folder 5 contains minutes of meetings of the Southwest Centrral Regional Section held in Ft. Worth, Texas, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
