Manuscript Collection 602
The Arkansas State Nurses Association (ASNA) is a professional statewide organization of health practitioners founded in 1912 and affiliated with the American Nursing Association. The District 9 division of ASNA was initially organized as the Fayetteville District Nurses Association. In 1956 the name of the organization changed to the Northwest Arkansas District Nurses Association, in 1965 to Arkansas Nurses Association District 14, and finally in 1981 to its present designation as District 9. The geographic boundaries of the district membership presently includes Benton, Carroll, Madison, and Washington counties, Arkansas.
Minutes, letters, reports, and papers created or collected by the Arkansas State Nurses Association District 9 were donated to Special Collections by the organization's secretary Linda O'Dell, Fayetteville, Arkansas, on August 18, 1986.
The records have been divided into three series. Series 1, District 9 records, includes all material originating from or pertaining specifically to the local chapter. Series 2, State association records, includes materials originating from the state headquarters in Little Rock. Series 3, American Nursing Association, contains materials from the national organization. The files have been arranged chronologically and topically labeled. Materials within the files have been chronologically arranged.
Processed by Kim Allen Scott, Special Collections Division, University of Arkansas Libraries, Fayetteville, Arkansas, in December, 1991.
