Letters and Papers, 1932 - 1939
Manuscript Collection 704
INFORMATION ABOUT THE COLLECTION
Letters and papers pertaining to August B. Clark were donated to Special Collections by his daughter, Georgia H. Clark of Fayetteville, Arkansas, February 10, 1986. The papers are an addendum to Manuscript Collection 576. For biographical information on Clark, please refer to the finding aid for that collection.
The material chiefly concerns Clark's application to be appointed United States Marshall for the Western District of Arkansas, and his involvement with banking and the Chamber of Commerce. A lesser amount of material concerns his careers as mayor of Texarkana and as regional director of the Home Owners Loan Corporation.
The material relating to Clark's bid to be appointed U. S. Marshall
dates from 1932 to 1934. It comprises primarily copies of letters
of reference in Clark's behalf, but also includes two petitions and an
incomplete index created by Clark of the reference letters. The general
correspondence spans 1934-1939. It is primarily business correspondence
related to Clark's banking
interests and involvement with the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce.
Some political matters involving Senators Hattie W. Caraway and Joe T.
Robinson and Congressman Ben Cravens are also discussed.
Processed by Leon C. Miller, Special Collections Division, University of Arkansas Libraries, Fayetteville, Arkansas in June 1986.
