THE CRUMP/GARVIN FAMILY

In 1866, Garvin Fitton's great-grandmother, Josephine Bonaparte Greenlee (1841-1920) of Harrison married her second husband, Colonel George J. Crump (1841-1928). Colonel Crump, lawyer and Confederate veteran, was a participant in the Brooks-Baxter War, and later became an Arkansas legislator in the House and Senate. From 1893-1897, he served in Fort Smith as a U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Arkansas. One of the Crumps four children, Mintie Helen (1869-1930), married Ford Morris Garvin (1860-1930) in 1886. Garvin, a native of Evansville, Indiana and graduate of Mt. St. Mary's College in Emmittsburg, Maryland, was a lawyer, banker, and mayor of Harrison.
