Index to Photographs
The Photograph Index consists of names of persons, groups, and officials associated with international educational and cultural programs administered by the Department of State and the U.S. Information Agency. The index includes names of American performing artistic and athletic groups and figures; U.S. students, teachers, lecturers, research scholars, and visiting teachers and scholars; CU assistant and deputy assistant secretaries of state and other CU officials; and persons participating in the American Specialist Program, International Visitor Program (Foreign Leader), and youth exchanges.
The first number following the name refers to the box number; the number
following the colon refers to the folder number. The Chicago Manual
(13th Edition) provided style guidelines for indexing personal names.
Webster's Biographical Dictionary (1976) also provided guidance.
Asian names are indexed in traditional form, with family names first, and
no commas are used. Spanish names are indexed according to the Spanish
custom of double surnames, with the father's name first. For some
names, particularly Burmese and Malaysian, a term of respect or a title
may be used in the alphabetical listing.
