Center for Cultural and Technical Interchange Between the East and West
(East-West Center)

Historical files, correspondence, reports, studies, surveys, projects, minutes, budgets, and development plans concerning the establishment and activities of the Center for Cultural and Technical Interchange Between the East and West (East-West Center).  The EWC was established by Congress in 1960 as a national educational institution to foster better relations and understanding between Americans and Asians in the Pacific area through programs of cooperative study, training, and research.  The center operated under a grant-in-aid agreement between the secretary of state and the University of Hawaii Board of Regents until it became a public educational nonprofit corporation in 1975.  Other files concern the East-West Center Press and EWC programs and grantees.  Arranged in eight series.
