Series 1.  CU History Office  (Box 308)

Correspondence, memoranda, background materials, chronology, bibliographies, and other documents concerning the establishment and activities of the CU History Office.  The office was established in the fall of 1972 for the purpose of writing the history of the international educational and cultural exchange programs of the Department of State and for maintaining a core collection of documents on policy and program development.  The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs published three monographs on the exchange program in Germany, China, and Latin America.  The first volume in this series, America's Cultural Experiment in China, 1942-1949, by Wilma Fairbank, was published in June 1976.  The second, Inter-American Beginnings of U.S. Cultural Diplomacy, 1936-1948, by J. Manuel Espinosa, appeared in February 1977.  The third, Cultural Relations as an Instrument of U.S. Foreign Policy: The Educational Exchange Program Between the United States and Germany, 1945-1954, by Henry J.
