U.S Advisory Commission on International Educational & Cultural Affairs

General and historical files, correspondence, memoranda, lists, minutes, reports, and other materials regarding the establishment, organization, administration, and activities of the U.S. Advisory Commission on International Educational and Cultural Affairs.  Established in 1962 under authority of the Fulbright-Hays Act, the commission recommended policies, appraised programs, made studies, and submitted reports in the field of international educational and cultural exchanges.  Included among landmark reports are A Beacon of Hope; Open Hearts, Open Minds; Foreign Students Survey; and American Studies Abroad.  (See also Group XVII for additional commission reports.)  Some files pertain to the commission's predecessor, the U.S. Advisory Commission on Educational Exchange, created in 1948 under authority of P.L. 402 (Smith-Mundt Act).  Other files concern the publication of the commission's quarterly magazine Exchange.  Arranged in six series.
