The materials in the Joseph Taylor Robinson Papers, Supplement 2, were separated from the Jeff Davis Papers on December 13, 1988. Robinson, while serving as Governor of Arkansas, was elected by the General Assembly to succeed Davis, who died on January 3, 1913, in the U.S. Senate.
The papers consist of correspondence, speeches, press releases, financial
records, and other papers pertaining mostly to the professional,
political, and governmental career of Robinson, especially as regards to
his role as a Congressman and chairman of the Committee on the Public Lands;
the Arkansas gubernatorial election in 1912, mainly congratulatory messages
to Robinson on his election as Arkansas Governor; and Robinson's senatorial
career. Specific areas to which records relate include: the National
and State Drought Relief Committees' effort to aid the farmers in drought-stricken
Arkansas in 1930, the A.B. Banks vs. State court case, the St. Francis
Levee District "Sunk Lands" case, and the Natural Gas and Petroleum Company,
El Dorado, Arkansas/T. H. Barton case. The papers also include one folder
of correspondence, miscellaneous papers, and photographs related to Nevin
