This series contains records of published materials concerning Edward Durell Stone, his career, and the work of his firm. Also included are materials pertaining to speeches by Stone. Subseries 1 and 2 contain files of articles, speeches, and books written by Stone which detail his views concerning architecture, architects, design concepts, the design process, American culture, education, the environment, urban planning, aesthetics, and criticism.
Subseries 3 contains articles published in the 1940s to the 1970s pertaining to individual projects designed by the Stone firm. Also included are clippings concerning Stone's personal and professional life, and interviews with Stone concerning his work and the business of architecture. Subseries 1. Articles and Speeches
Included in these files are correspondence, memos, drafts, notes, published
articles, editorials and criticism pertaining to articles written by Stone
concerning his views on architecture, architects, aesthetics, design concepts,
the design process, the environment, education, politics and selected projects
between 1958 and 1963. Folder 12 of Box 91 contains correspondence
concerning possible articles by Stone. Also included are texts of speeches
given by Stone, as well as correspondence, contracts, and programs pertaining
to these speeches. Files are arranged chronologically.

Subseries
2. Books Written by Edward Durell Stone
These files contain material pertaining to published books written
by Edward Durell Stone, as well as drafts of books written by Stone but
not published. Files 1 to 5 deal with a manuscript entitled The
American Landscape which was completed, but never published. Files
6, 7 and 8 contain material for his first book Evolution of an Architect,
which was published in 1962. Files 9 and 10 pertain to his second
book Recent & Future Architecture, which was published in 1967.
Files 11 to 14 contain correspondence from publishers concerning other
publications. Included are correspondence, session notes, memos,
reference files, drafts, publicity, reviews, and critiques.

Newspaper and Magazine Articles
These files contain clippings and feature articles from various newspapers
and magazines pertaining to the projects of the Edward Durell Stone office,
as well as the personal and profession life of Stone. Boxes 93 and
94 contain newspaper clippings provided mainly by Burrelles and Luce clipping
services, as well as feature newspaper articles concerning Stone.
These articles are arranged chronologically and cover a wide variety of
topics. Boxes 95, 96 and 97 contain published material dealing with
individual projects. The files are arranged alphabetically by project title.
In addition, folders 18 and 19 of Box 97 contain clippings pertaining
to Edward Durell Stone and Edward Durell Stone, Jr.; while folder 20 contains
articles concerning Stone's projects written by Ada Louise Huxtable.
Box 6 contains feature articles concerning Mr. Stone and his works, as
well as an unpublished manuscript by Franklin Brill.
