INFORMATION ABOUT THE COLLECTION
The Uniontown Christian Church Records were donated to Special Collections by Mrs. Hollis Branson, Ural Peace, and Andrew Wood of Uniontown (Crawford County), Arkansas on September 4, 1986.
The papers were preserved by the Uniontown Christian Church as a chronicle of its activities from the inception of the church late in the nineteenth century to the present. These materials are a history both of the church itself and of the individual members of the community of Uniontown who were its members.
The history of the Uniontown Christian Church dates from the establishment of a Sunday school in Uniontown in 1886. As the population in western Arkansas grew, so too did the membership of the Uniontown Christian Church. The church continued to flourish throughout the last part of the nineteenth century and is still active at the present time.
Materials in the collection include: a small body of correspondence from Andrew Scott to the Churches of Christ in Illinois, from A. M. Baker to J. D. Hart, and from J. D. Hart to Mrs. G. W. Howell; a history of the Uniontown Christian Church, by Lula Jane Howell; a school yearbook (the Uniontown Echo); a small body of clippings; and a photograph of the Uniontown Christian Church. Most of the collection, however, consists of church records, including registers of members, chronicles of services, and financial accounts.
