Placing Items on Reserve
Submitting Materials for Reserve
Course Reserve materials may be submitted in the form of paper, photocopies, 3¼ disks, zip disks, CDs, or electronic files.
Submit a separate online Course Reserve Request Form for each course. Submission of the form indicates acceptance of the conditions in the Statement of Copyright Compliance that accompanies the form. Course Reserve general guidelines are available online.
Reserve materials can be sent via e-mail to reserves@uark.edu or delivered to the Circulation Desk in Mullins Library, the Performing Arts and Media Department, the Fine Arts Library, or to the Chemistry/Physics Library.
A copy of the course syllabus should be submitted with other reserve materials. Making a syllabus available online greatly assists your students and library staff in the identification of assignments when copyright rules require that bound journals or books be placed on reserve instead of multiple or repeat copies from those works.
Types of Reserve Materials
- Books from the library's collection may be placed on reserve upon request. If a book cannot be located, a search will be conducted and the instructor will be notified. If the missing book is declared missing from the collection, the library will initiate a rush purchase. If the book is checked out, it will be recalled.
- Reference books and materials needed for reserve must be approved by the Reference Department before being submitted for reserve.
- Personal copies can also be placed on reserve. The library will make every attempt to purchase materials that are needed for reserve. When the title is unavailable or additional copies are needed, personal copies of books may be provided to the library. These must be identified with the instructor's name and department and will be labeled with a removable call number. If a personal copy is placed on reserve due to the loss and misplacement of the library copy, the personal copy will be returned when the library copy is located or replaced.
- Photocopied materials will be made available via E-reserves, if applicable. These materials can be journal articles, book chapters, practice exams, lecture notes, sample sets or other instructor produced materials. To assist us in processing your materials as quickly as possible, we ask that paper copies:
- contain a complete citation imprinted or clearly written on the first page of each photocopied articles (journal / book title, author, publisher date, volume, issue, page #);
- be clean first generation copies;
- be single sided;
- be on 8/5 x 11 white paper with no black margins; and
- contain no punched holes or staples.
- Bound journals are placed on reserve only under special circumstances. Single issues of journals may not be placed on reserve.
- Electronic Resources have been purchased or licensed that contain full-text journal articles and other copyrighted materials. Instructors are encouraged to identify and assign these items whenever possible. Course Reserves staff will assist with identifying appropriate electronic resources and, in many cases, provide online access to these materials directly from instructor’s reserve lists through Infolinks.
- Syllabi are made available electronically for each class, once submitted. This aids students and library staff in the identification of journal articles or book chapters when copyright requires the bound journals or books be placed on reserve as opposed to the particular assigned articles or chapters.
