About the Portal

 Mission

This website is the work of the CUARL Educational Portal Task Force, a committee charged with “the mission of developing a shared Web site dedicated to providing information and tools to teachers K through 12 drawing from materials provided by the various colleges, departments, and programs of the UA research universities.” The committee was further directed to:

• Identify programs and resources at each institution, wherever curriculum is developed
• Identify opportunities for partnerships with K-12 groups
• Determine how a portal should be established and monitored
• Develop a promotional plan.

This portal is the ongoing work of that committee, with the assistance of faculty at each institution.

 Criteria

The primary purpose of the CUARL K-12 Education Portal is to expand awareness and use of the educational resources available to Arkansas K-12 educators, especially those materials prepared or gathered together by the UofA system institutions. 

To be included in the portal database, a site must be hosted by a UofA institution, a state association, government agency or a state educational institution, or it must provide substantial information about the state.  Web sites of individuals may be considered for the portal database, as many college faculty do organize useful resources in their own fields and develop teaching materials for K-12, but preference will be given to institutes, centers, associations, agencies, and nonprofit groups.  Much of the material described here is free, but some content and continuing education offerings require fees.  Commercial or partisan sites will not be added to the portal database.

The contents of each site are described briefly and keywords have been selected for each that will allow educators, parents, and students to use the “search” feature to find sites that fulfill their interests. The university emblems link to the CUARL institutions' own homepages, for those seeking an institution’s main Web site. The librarians and staff from the CUARL libraries are available to assist you with your research needs.
