Database News for March 2006

The University Libraries, in partnership with the Dale Bumpers College of Agriculture, have developed a portal for rice research for the AgNIC (Agriculture Network Information Center) System. AgNIC is a collaborative effort of libraries, land-grant universities, research centers, the National Library of Agriculture, and the USDA to collect and disseminate all kinds of information related to animal husbandry, crops, soils, horticulture, conservation, food, forestry, and related fields. Visitors to the AgNic portal can browse dozens of different sites developed by partners covering topics such as aquaculture, bees, rangelands, wildlife management, and many other subjects. AgNIC also offers a developing portal-wide search engine to retrieve materials by keyword.

Our Rice Research portal offers links to and information about rice databases, library collections, organizations, university departments, conferences, and businesses. Rice news, statistics, and even recipes are also available. The site will continue to grow as research reports and other publication links are added.

The University of Arkansas Fayetteville continues to work with UAMS, UALR, UA Monticello and UA Fort Smith to add online access to important titles in the physical, life, and social sciences published by Elsevier on their ScienceDirect platform. For 2006, campuses were able to reduce duplicate subscriptions in order to add new, frequently requested, titles. Below is a list of all titles now available to UA researchers through this combined subscription:

The Libraries have recently added online access to Gale's Book Review Index. Here you can search for citations to reviews published since 1965 in the New Yorker, New York Times Book Review, New York Review of Books, and more than 675 other popular and academic sources.

Book reviews are also available in our Books in Print (BIP) database. Bip now offers a new service, FictionConnection. FictionConnection, which can be accessed directly from the BIP main page, lets you find novels by topic, genre, setting, character, location, and time period. You can also search for a book you enjoyed, and get recommendations of similar titles or topics, using an innovative graphic browsing interface. Finding that great novel to read over spring break has never been easier!

JSTOR, the popular online archive of core journals, has added several new titles to the University Libraries' subscription. These include several new titles in Art and Religion, such as:

• Archives of American Art Journal
• Journal of Biblical Literature
• Master Drawings
• Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin
• Muqarnas
• Novum Testamentum
• Vetus Testamentum

You can always view a list of all subscribed JSTOR titles by search the online catalog, InfoLinks, under the title, "JSTOR online journals."

JSTOR has also recently added reference linking. Reference linking allows users to click on a cited reference in a JSTOR article and retrieve the full text available elsewhere in JSTOR. Approximately 12,000 cited reference links have been added so far in both the Page images of articles as well as in the PDF versions. Read more about JSTOR reference linking.
