Wiley E-Books Provide Convenient Access to Technical Information

For several years, University of Arkansas researchers have had access to the full catalog of science and technology journals from Wiley Interscience online. This summer, the Libraries are adding to that package almost 100 electronic books in fields such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, and bioengineering.

The Libraries have purchased only about 10% of the more than 1000 ebook titles available from Wiley. Following is a list of titles in the collection:

Records are still being added to the online catalog but you can browse current titles in InfoLinks under the title "Wiley Interscience Electronic Books." To see a list of all ebooks currently held by the Libraries, try a subject search for "text electronic book." Our ebook collection includes many conference proceedings from IEEE and ACM, literary and historical works from Alexander Street Press and the Making of America series, and business and management books from netLibrary.

If you have questions or comments about this new ebook collection, contact Patricia Kirkwood, Librarian for Mathematics, Computer Science, and Engineering.

Philosopher's Index

Philosopher's Index: Online at Last!

Since 1967, the Philosopher's Information Center (formerly the Philosophy Documentation Center) has published the Philosopher's Index, a current, comprehensive, and easy-to-use subject and author index to:

  • Philosophical articles
  • Books
  • Anthologies
  • Contributions to Anthologies

The Index covers more than 550 journals from more than 40 countries back to 1940; the database is updated quarterly.

Through the CSA Illumina interface, users will find it easy to:

  • access the Philosopher's Index from on or off campus
  • check InfoLinks for local holdings of cited journals and books
  • connect to full-text articles in databases such as JSTOR and Project MUSE
  • place ILLiad interlibrary loan requests automatically
  • export citations into the RefWorks bibliographic manager program

The Libraries thank the Philosophy Department for their support to help make this important resource accessible to the entire University of Arkansas community.

CAMIO Images

Word Jumble: AMICO is now CAMIO

Effective July 1st, AMICO (the Art Museum Image Consortium database of fine arts images) became CAMIO (Catalog of Art Museum Images Online). While the interface to this new version is almost identical to AMICO, users may notice some changes in content.

CAMIO (Catalog of Art Museum Images Online) offers rights-cleared,high-quality art images for class projects, art history and studio art programs, course Web sites, lectures, presentations, and research resources. This new database not only supports art history, studio art, and design departments, it also provides rich context for history, religion, and other humanities programs.

CAMIO is a growing collection with images from these member museums:

Albright-Knox Art Gallery
Asia Society Galleries
Brooklyn Children's Museum
The Cleveland Museum of Art
Dallas Museum of Art
The Detroit Institute of Arts
Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco
The Frick Collection and Art Reference Library
George Eastman House, International Museum of Photography
Indianapolis Museum of Art
Library of Congress
Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Louisiana State Museum
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Minneapolis Institute of Arts
Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
National Gallery of Canada
Philadelphia Museum of Art
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
Smithsonian American Art Museum
Victoria & Albert Museum
Walker Art Center

If you have questions about art images online, contact Norma Johnson, the Fine Arts Librarian.

PAIS and PAIS Archive No Longer Available

PAIS, the Public Affairs Information Service index to journal articles and government reports, is no longer available online to the UofA community through the FirstSearch service. PAIS was sold this past year to CSA, and the cost to subscribe on this new platform was prohibitive given the amount of use the database receives. The print volumes of PAIS, covering 1915 - 1995, are available in Ref-Index at call number Z 7163 .P9.

Many of the titles indexed by PAIS are available in the popular Ebsco and ProQuest databases. However, if you are concerned about this loss of access to the online version of PAIS, please contact Don Batson, Librarian for Political Science and Public Policy.
