What is Find it?

Find it! is a new linking service from the University of Arkansas Libraries. Find it! will allow you to quickly locate full-text articles and related resources from within dozens of library databases -- without the extra step of checking holdings in our online catalog.

While there are already records for more than 25,000 electronic journals and conferences in the system, Find it! is still being developed with records for additional journals, books, dissertations, and conference proceedings.

InfoLinks, the online catalog, is still the most comprehensive and up-to-date tool for locating journals and other materials in all formats.

If Find it! can't locate full text, does that mean the Libraries don't have that item?

No. If Find it! can't find a match in its database of full text articles, search InfoLinks, the online catalog, for complete holdings information. There is a chance the Libraries will have the material you need in print or even in online format.

If, after checking InfoLinks you still cannot locate the publication you seek, you may request the item on Interlibrary Loan (ILL). There are links to ILL forms from the Find it! page.

Why doesn't Find it! always take me directly to the article?

Find it! uses a standard called OpenURL. Not all journals or electronic resources that our Libraries subscribe to are capable of answering an OpenURL request. If a journal is not "OpenURL aware," the Find it! service will attempt to give you a link as close to the full text as possible. In some cases this will be on the journal main page, or on a page with the issue and date of your article.

Why doesn't Find it! find a match, even when the catalog says that full text should be available?

At times, index databases encode the article citations differently from information stored at the publisher's journal site. For example, the index may not include an ISSN or ISBN (international standard serial number or international standard book number). Or the journal name may be spelled with an ampersand ("&") instead of the word "and." There are lots of ways that the details of the citation can vary between one database and another.

If Find it! has not located full text for you, it is a good idea to search InfoLinks, our online catalog, for complete holdings information.

How can I use Find it! with PubMed?

PubMed, the National Library of Medicine's gateway to MEDLINE and other resources, can link to Find it! in two ways.

The easiest method is to use the customized links to PubMed from our web site.

You can also create a personal login on PubMed through the My NCBI tool. My NCBI allows you to save searches and receive alerts of new publications in your field. After creating a personal account on My NCBI, you will receive an email confirmation. Thereafter, you can sign into My NCBI and set your Outside Tool to be University of Arkansas Libraries.

Find it! links will appear on the detailed / abstracts view in PubMed.

How can I use Find it! with Google Scholar?

Google Scholar indexes hundreds of open access and subscription journals, books from the WorldCat database, conference papers and proceedings, white papers, and other academic materials posted on the Web. Google Scholar is not as comprehensive as many subject databases, but it is useful in that it provides one handy place to search across many different disciplines and subject areas.

You can customize your user preferences in Google Scholar to show Find it! links for some materials. Click the Scholar Preferences link and scroll down to Library Links. Search for "Arkansas" in the Find Library box and check the option for University of Arkansas Libraries (Find it!). Save your preferences and perform a search. You will see Find it! links for those items that may be available in full text at our library.

Note that Google's links to our holdings are usually at least a week out of date.

Why aren't there Find it! buttons in every database?

Some databases are already full-text, so there is no need to link to other sources.

In some cases, the databases are not yet capable of linking to a service such as Find it! If you use a database often, and would like to see Find it! links there, please contact us.

Can I use Find it! from home?

In most cases, Find it! will work remotely. You may be asked to input your UARK username and password for access to articles.

More about remote access.
