people may not have need of a full-blown suite of GIS software, wanting,
perhaps, simply to "view" data or run simple querries. ESRI
is distributing ArcExplorer,
a free "lightweight" GIS data viewer. ArcExplorer may be used
for for a variety of display, query, and data retrieval applications and
supports a wide variety of standard data sources. Interested individuals
may download
ArcExplorer without charge.

The University
of Arkansas Department of Computing Services offers geographic information
systems (GIS) software through the ESRI Academic Site License.
GIS software is available for research and educational use by University
of Arkansas faculty and students, at low cost with an annual renewal,
for installation on office and laboratory computers across campus. This
opportunity is possible through the Arkansas Statewide academic site license
with ESRI, with restrictions (i.e., no commercial use) as specified in
the copyright and license agreements.
