FDLP Centennial Celebration, Online Exhibit
Occasionally, celebrities will testify before a particular House or Senate committee. Bob Saget and Jason Alexander, for example, offered testimony regarding women’s health issues in 1996. Three years later, Muhammad Ali participated in a hearing before the Committee on Commerce regarding professional boxing reform.
A letter, written by Ali to Senator John McCain, in which he decries the 1999 Lenox Lewis-Evander Holyfield event as “the biggest fix in fight history” is included in the printed hearing. Ali's testimony led to the enactment of the "Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act" in 2000 (Public Law 106-210).
