FDLP Centennial Celebration, Online Exhibit
The United Congressional States Serial Set dates back to 1817. Its value is regarded as mostly historical. There are, however, hidden, timeless gems in its depths. It contains, for example, some of the earliest representations of American lithography, Jesuit maps of the Great Lakes, and conversion charts of Native American to English words.
This image, for example, shows a draft of the opening page of Abraham Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address. The manuscript was given to John Hay in 1865 by Lincoln himself. Later, in 1916 the children of John Hay gave this copy to the Library of Congress.
