    Awards

    Doris Cleek received a University Service Award for twenty years of service to the University.

    Jo Grippe (Library Accountant) received a University Service Award for twenty years of service to the University.

    Jennifer Kolmes received a University Service Award for ten years of service to the University.

    Deb Kulczak was awarded tenure and promotion to the rank of associate librarian/associate professor. She also received a University Service Award for ten years of service to the University.

     Lora Lennertz was nominated for honorary membership as Friend of the Arts in the Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity. She was also named Adjunct Professor of Music in the spring.

    Mullins Library faculty and staff won a Bronze Certificate for their contributions to the United Way.

    Sherryl Robinson received a University Service Award for ten years of service to the University.

     Nancy Webb (then Head of Government Documents) won a contest prize valued at $25,000 for the Libraries at the June 26 meeting of the American Library Association in New Orleans. The Congressional Information Service awarded the prize, and Ms. Webb chose a combination of United States serial set microfilms of the 30th-33rd Congress and Executive Branch and serial set indices to enhance accessibility to government documents.

    Outreach / Performances / Creative Work / Citations

    Andrea Cantrell served as Judge of senior papers for History Day, Regional Competition in March.

    Steve Chism's (Reference) work on palindromes was cited in the recent publications Sit on a Potato, Otis! (New York: Farrar Straus Giroux, 1999) and I Love me, vol I: ...Palindrome Encyclopedia (Chapel Hill: Algonquin Books, 1998).

    Michael Dabrishus volunteered for the KUAFA (National Public Radio) fundraiser.

    Donna Daniels (Reference) continued to serve on the Board of the Humane Society of the Ozarks.

    Mikey King (Cataloging) volunteered for the KUAF (National Pupblic Radio) fall and spring fundraisers.

    Jennifer Kolmes performed as member organist at the Northwest Arkansas Chapter of the American Guild of Organists program, "Pipes, Wind, Music, and You: Celebrating the King of Instruments," May 21 at United Lutheran Church, Bella Vista, Arkansas. Also played the piano or organ for eleven services in area churches.

    Deb Kulczak volunteered for the KUAF spring fundraiser.

    Lora Lennertz taught a seminar in music bibliography (MUHS 5973) at the U of A in the fall semester. She also performed on the french horn in several concerts in the following musical groups: Arkansas Winds, University of Arkansas Music Camp, Arts Center of the Ozarks ( "Once Upon a Mattress"), North Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Aeolian Wind Quintet, the University of Arkansas Brass Choir, Bella Vista Community Choir and Orchestra, and the North Arkansas Symphony Brass Quintet. On a tenor horn she performed numerous concerts throughout the year in the Ozarks Mountain Brass Band. She also sang in the University of Arkansas Concert Choir.

    Karen Myers (Reference) performed as a member of the chorus in the Northwest Arkansas Symphony Chorus production of Carmina Burana in April.

    Necia Parker-Gibson contributed twelve poems to the joint show "A Family Affair" at the Walton Arts Center in January.

    Janet Parsch served as Board member on the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Washington County and as Board member for the Foundation of International Exchange of Students, as well as co-chair of the Foundation's Outreach and Development Committee. She also performed as a member of a seven-member a cappella choral group.

    Personnel Changes

    Jennifer Kolmes resigned in June as head of the Cataloging Department to accept a position as librarian at the Columbus Metropolitan Library. She is to be succeeded by Cheryl Conway, currently serials cataloger, beginning in July 2000.

    Nancy Webb retired in January after twenty-five years as head of the Government Documents Department.

    Rhonda Williams-Henry resigned from her position as monographs cataloger to pursue a law degree at the University of Arkansas. She was succeeded by Kathryn Kluttz, who was hired from the University of Texas in June.
