Mission Statement
The mission of the Physics Library is to provide access to information that will support and foster creativity, study, teaching, and research, particularly in the area of physics and its related fields.
Collections
The Physics Library, a full service branch of the University Libraries, strives to coordinate access to, and make available, information in physics and related disciplines in a variety of formats to support the informational and reading needs of students, staff, and faculty. Services include providing access to online research databases, the online library catalog (Infolinks), course reserves, reference and research consultations, user instruction, document delivery, as well as access to print material including discipline related monographs and journals.
Circulation
The Physics Library follows the circulation policies as listed on the main Mullins Library Circulation page.
Photocopying, Computing, Printing, and Scanning
The Physics Library has one photocopier available for use by library patrons. Copies may be made with a University ID card using Razorbuck$ at 12cents each. Guest Razorbauck$ copy cards may be purchased and Razorbuck$ may be added at the campus ID Card Office (in the Student Union) or in the Law Library. Value to cards can also be added online on the Campus Card page.
The Physics Library has nine computer workstations as well as wireless Internet access. Computer users need to log-in with their GACL account information and printing jobs are released through the PrintSmart printing station. More PrintSmart information, including printing prices, can be found here.
Also available for patron use is a flatbed scanner from which documents can be scanned, saved, e-mailed, or printed as needed.
History
In 1929 the Physics Library began as a small collection of books and journals purchased by the department and was located in two bookshelves in Dr. Paul Shara’s office in the basement of Old Main. The physics material was transferred to its present building in 1960. In 1992, with the renovation of the Physics Building, the Physic Library collections were moved across the hall to the present location.
