Manuscript Collection 1273
The Arkansas State Horticultural Society, one of the oldest organizations of its kind in the state, was founded on May 24, 1879 in Little Rock, Arkansas. The society originally started as a group of apple growers, but over the years has branched out to include other fruits, vegetables, and ornamentals. The main purpose of the organization is to promote horticultural interests. This is achieved by bringing information to the grower, the agri-business, and related industries to help them provide nutritious food, improve lifestyles, and enhance the environment.
