INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARKANSAS AUDUBON SOCIETY RECORDS

The Arkansas Audubon Society, a state chapter of the National Audubon Society, is a non-profit organization.  The purpose of this corporation is to foster a greater knowledge of Arkansas' natural history and to promote the conservation of its natural resources.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE COLLECTION

The papers consist mainly of financial records such as treasurer's reports, budgets, audits, accounting ledgers, and five membership dues journals; minutes of the meetings; membership lists; correspondence; and other papers relating to the organization.

The original arrangement of the papers was maintained as much as possible.  The records are arranged in chronological order.  The folders for the years 1959-1968, 1979-1982, and 1987-1989 contain all material generated by the Society on yearly basis.  Records for the years  1971 to 1973 are arranged first by subject and then chronologically.  The journals/ledgers and the audit reports are placed at the end of the collection in chronological order.

The Arkansas Audubon Society Records were donated to the Special Collections Division by Douglas A. James, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, on February 15, 1994 and Kim Smith, Fayetteville, Arkansas, on January 17, 1997.
