Edward Fordyce, St. Louis, Missouri, donated the John Rison Fordyce scrapbook to Special Collections on May 21, 2001. Col. John Rison Fordyce (1869-1939) was an engineer, inventor, amateur historian, archaeologist, and candidate for U.S. Congress. He was a member of Dr. Frederick A. Cook's expedition to the Arctic in 1894 and in 1917 was commissioned Major of Engineers and put in charge of the construction of Camp Pike. He was also a member of the Commission on Flood Control headed by Herbert Hoover, Secretary of Commerce.
The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings from Aug 13, 1927 to 1928 relating to flood control primarily in Arkansas and Mississippi.
