Personal Records, 1943-1998

The personal records are those that were kept at Jones’s home for reference by Jones and his wife, Mary Elizabeth, “Gus,” Jones. They reflect certain aspects of the life of Fay Jones outside his architectural practice and teaching career. Included are Gus Jones’s address books that contain information important to family life. The World War II records consist primarily of log books kept by Fay Jones in his United States Naval Aviation flights. Records from the American Academy in Rome briefly describe Jones’s two periods of residency.  The undergraduate and thesis documents reflect the programs at the University of Arkansas and the Rice Institute in the early 1950’s. Note: Appendix I in this Finding Aid is a Biographical Time Line for Jones.

The reference material on Jones=s contemporaries in the profession of architecture is primarily printed material. The records concerned with Frank Lloyd Wright are also primarily printed articles, but they include records of Wright’s visit to the University of Arkansas in 1958 as well as a few records of life at Taliesin West and Taliesin in Wisconsin. These items consist of programs, sketches, and some correspondence kept by the Jones family.
