Series 1. Margaret Ross Personal Papers (Boxes 1-12)

This series consists of Margaret Ross’s personal papers. It is divided into five subseries. The first contains materials related to her personal life, family, and properties. The second consists of correspondence with individuals and organizations. The thirds consists of her research and writings. The fourth subseries consists of copies of her historical newspaper column, Chronicles of Arkansas. The fifth subseries is related to her genealogical newspaper column, Grass Roots, and includes both inquiries from readers and her published responses.

This subseries is organized into two alphabetically-arranged sections. The first includes individuals and organizations with which Ross had significant correspondence. The second includes individuals and organizations with which Ross may have exchanged one or two letters. Materials concerning Walter Lemke also include his “Journalism Newsletter.”

Subseries 3. Research and Writings.

This subseries includes drafts, research notes, and finished copies of writings by Ross. It is divided into six sections. The first concerns Arkansas History; the second the Arkansas Gazette; the third individual people; and the fourth prostitution in Little Rock. The fifth section includes copies of Ross’s published writings, while the sixth consists of miscellaneous writings such as poetry, genealogical research instructions, and historical notes. Newspaper copies of her historical newspaper column, Chronicles of Arkansas, are in subseries 4. Materials related to her genealogical newspaper column, Grass Roots, are in subseries 5.
