DAVID HAMPTON PRYOR PAPERS, 1934-2004

Group II, Series 2. Politics and Government (Boxes 117-166)

This series includes materials pertaining to both Senator Pryor's political career and his role as a member of Senate committees. It also includes materials related to political parties and politicians. The Bill Clinton subseries includes materials relating to Senator Pryor's involvement with the 1992 presidential campaign, the presidential inauguration, the transition of government from the Bush to the Clinton Administration, and the public debate over the Whitewater investigation. Materials pertaining to Clinton administration job seekers are restricted as per the donor agreement. Materials relating to the Ethics Committee have been divided into two subseries. The first Ethics Committee subseries contains newspaper clippings and other public documents; the second subseries, which contains notes and confidential documents, is restricted as per the donor agreement. Materials in the Judiciary subseries pertaining to Clinton administration appointees and investigations of individuals are also restricted as per the donor agreement. Restricted materials may NOT be accessed.

Subseries 1. Speeches and Statements by Senator Pryor

This subseries is not comprehensive with regards to all speeches and statements made by Senator Pryor. Speeches are arranged by topic. The file "Arkansas–Events" refers to speeches made by Senator Pryor at localities in Arkansas, usually about the locality itself. The file "Arkansas–Issues" refers to issues relating to or affecting Arkansas. Speeches made by Pryor at national and Arkansas state Democratic conventions are filed under the title "Democratic Party." The file "General Issues" includes individual speeches addressing several multiple issues such as economics, defense, etc. The file "People" includes speeches honoring individuals. The file "Universities and Colleges"includes speeches made at university and college commencements and other events.

Subseries 2. Senator Pryor's Senate Record

This subseries contains materials that record Senator Pryor's attendance, how he voted on specific bills, summaries of his legislative activities, and analyses of his voting record by interest groups. It also includes excerpts from the Congressional Record that mention Senator Pryor or contain remarks made by him, with an annual index of entries for the senator compiled by his staff; there is no index for 1991.This subseries also includes the text of every bill voted on during Pryor's tenure in the Senate, listing how each individual Senator voted. Also included are chronological and alphabetical indexes, as well as indexes based on party-line votes and bill numbers. The Legislative Bulletin was published by the Democratic Legislative Committee. Additional interest group ratings of members of Congress are included in the files of Henry Woods (Group II, Series 8, Subseries 4).
