Profiles: Al Witte

Albert Matthew Francis Witte was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 25, 1923. 

He first came to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to receive his Air Force training during WW II and later was assigned to duty in Italy.

He earned his Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Chicago and graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Law.  Witte became a professor at the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1957 and remained a member of the faculty until his retirement in 1994.

He served as the president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and finished his term in 1990.
