Every day, the University of Arkansas Libraries connect students, faculty and staff with the resources they need for success. Whether searching for books in the mobile catalog, accessing thousands of online databases or stopping in for research help, the entire YOU of A community benefits from the services housed in our five campus libraries. The University of Arkansas Libraries are leaders in research, teaching and learning. As enrollment grows, we need your help more than ever to continue providing exceptional services, resources and facilities. Please consider making a gift to the University of Arkansas Libraries. Remember, for the thousands of students who call the YOU of A home, lifelong learning and success start with the University Libraries.

The Libraries’ Challenge Today

The University Libraries are the intellectual foundation of the university – serving all members of the University community by supporting and fostering creativity, study, teaching, and research.  In order to expand our services, keep pace with change, and provide the most relevant, diverse resources possible, the Libraries must rely on private gift support.

With your help, the Libraries can continue the mission of meeting the needs of academic programs on campus and of reaching our goal of becoming a nationally competitive research library.  Gifts like yours make the difference between an adequate library and an excellent one.

Growth Through the Years

The library has evolved from a very small collection of under 4,000 volumes on the second floor of Old Main—with only a student librarian in charge—to five full-service research libraries on campus today.

The library system of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, comprises the David W. Mullins Library (the main research facility) and four branch libraries: the Robert A. and Vivian Young Law Library, the Fine Arts Library, the Chemistry and Biochemistry Library, and the Physics Library.

The Importance of Giving

Dean AllenCarolyn Allen, Dean of Libraries, says, “A nationally competitive research university must have resources available to students and faculty that will give them an academic edge.  The generosity and vision of private donors are a tremendous support in providing information—whether in print or through electronic databases—for students and faculty today and for future generations.

Despite numerous advances in collections and services in our Libraries in recent years (see Annual Reports), we must continue to acquire more resources and provide more services to make our university truly competitive with our peers. When students and faculty are deliberating whether or not to come to the University of Arkansas, a key factor in that decision will be whether or not the University will be able to provide the library resources they need to support their research interests.”

Kinds of Giving

There are several kinds of gifts that can benefit the University Libraries, including a cash gift, a gift in kind, or an endowed gift.  More details...
